Hi!
My name is Pushpa full name, (Pushpa Gurung) from a small and beautiful country of Nepal, currently living in London with my beloved husband. Knitting cardigans is my favorite project, although I also enjoy making sweaters, but not quite as much. I love the joy and excitement I feel every time I work on a project.
The story behind the Dear knits
The first time I started knitting was at the age of 9, though I don’t clearly remember who taught me initially. I do recall that my Aama (mother) had many double-pointed needles and some yarns, which I used to play with. I would make small scarves and hat-like items, and everyone who saw me knitting would say, “Oh, you knit really fast, that’s so cool.” I enjoyed receiving those compliments.
One day, a new neighbor moved in who made intricate lace crochet projects. I asked her to teach me, and she showed me how crochet works. Gradually, I got into crochet and began making projects like table runners and dishcloths. Since then, I have been creating various items every now and then.
I Came to UK
In 2011, after completing my A levels in Nepal, I came to the UK for further studies. While studying, I used to make scarves for my friends and myself. In 2012, I met my husband (then boyfriend), and we fell in love.
Soon after our relationship began, I had to leave the UK. Once my studies were completed, I returned to my home country, leaving my boyfriend behind.
My Struggle started
After returning to my home country, I was initially very happy to be with my family. However, after some time, reality set in. I didn't have a job to provide a regular income to maintain my lifestyle and fulfill my necessities. Slowly, I became depressed and felt like I was in a blank space, unsure of what to do next.
That's when I picked up my knitting needles after a long time and started learning more from YouTube. I watched tutorials on how to knit sweaters and cardigans and learned a lot. I began selling my finished garments, and people liked them. However, after some time, I realized that making a garment from yarn took so much time, and the price I received for them was too low, so I quit selling.
In November 2018, I opened my YouTube channel called "Knit with Me" with new hope. I uploaded tutorials on beautiful knitting stitches. Although my English was hard for native speakers to understand, I did my best, and many people appreciated my efforts, which motivated me to keep going. After six months, my YouTube channel got monetized—hurrah!
I was making good money from my YouTube channel and was very happy. While running my channel, I constantly watched videos about knitting and gradually developed a desire to design my own sweaters and cardigans. I was very interested in designing knitwear and wanted to open my own website to sell my designs online. However, I didn't have any resources to get started.
we got married
In January 2018, before I opened my YouTube channel, my then-boyfriend came to visit. (We are from the same hometown in Nepal, by the way.) We got married.
In August 2023, I moved to the UK again with my husband. After spending so much time living in different countries, we desperately wanted to live together permanently.
After arriving in the UK, I finally decided to work on my dream.
My love for the knits I make
I believe everyone feels the same happiness and satisfaction when they look at their finished garment or project after blocking and try it on.
However, I'm the type who keeps admiring it even during the blocking process. I love how it transforms once it's finished. Oh, I absolutely adore it!
I hope you enjoy knitting my patterns as much as I do.
HAPPY KNITTING.
